A thousand things to do

As I gaze at the illustrated books on the cover of the notebook I just bought for my daily writings, I notice one titled “A Thousand Things to Do.” It strikes me then: in life, there are as many things to do as there are books to read. Yet, only some are truly worth the read, and fewer still are worth returning to again and again.

I have a question for you: What are the questions one should ask to decide what is worth doing?

Always keep in mind your multidimensionality as a human being. You are far more than a title or a field; you are more than what society—or even your own mind—tells you that you are based on your (sometimes mindless) daily actions.

  • What did I do as a child of seven or younger?

  • What were my natural inclinations?

  • Are they aligned with who I am today?

  • Do my current pursuits feel as "clean" as those early curiosities?

Think beyond boxed categories or status-quo definitions. Make these answers your own. See if what you are doing today is aligned in essence with those early memories. If not, ask yourself: How can I realign with them, and with my current and future curiosities, while being guided by the heart?

Consider your values. As Shaolin warriors say, “You are what you have done, and you will be what you do now.” Analyze your current path and see if it aligns with the person you want to become.

Now, let me join my friends; they’re out in the garage starting the BBQ. I’ll be back in a minute. Now, it's time for you to do your homework.
